ONLINE Live 3-hour PD Workshop – GROW your knowledge about physical literacy and physical activity to use in the everyday experiences and work of caring for and promoting the healthy development of children at the earliest stages of development. Developed by the experts at Sport for Life Canada!
- This workshop focuses on providing early years staff (front-line Early Childhood Education staff, supervisors, managers) and parents with an increased understanding of physical literacy development in young children (0 to 5 years). Participants will learn what physical literacy is and why it is important to develop in young children, understand the relationship between brain development and physical literacy and learn how relationships, environment, activities, and equipment can support physical literacy development.
- Describe key concepts such as active play, fundamental movement skills, risky/adventurous play and physical literacy.
- Examine the critical role early years play in the future health and physical literacy of a child.
- Identify concepts and activities that support active play in the early years.
- Review educational tools for parents which highlight the important role of active play on a child’s overall development
- Gather information that can be applied to increase the capacity of managers and staff to develop policies, practices and environments.

What each registrants receives with REG FEE:
- A certificate of completion from Sport for Life and Professional Development Points from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) for anyone that collects points with the NCCP.
- Participant workshop material(s) are provided on the Sport for Life Canada Workshop Participant Portal
- Resources are also available on the participant portal for ECEs to share with parents in their day home, daycare centers and preschools, etc.

This is an approved PD FUNDED Training Workshop for reimbursement with Alberta Childcare Grant Funding Program - For certified staff in ALBERTA - working in licensed; ECE preschool programs, family day home agencies. Certified staff complete the Alberta Child Care Grant Funding professional development application form to receive reimbursement of the registration fee paid - and to be paid for their time completing this SMSK training workshop through the Release Time Grant.
